President’s Welcome
As one of the largest sports societies representing the University, Cambridge University Fencing Club, CUFC, is a vibrant and prestigious club where athletes come together to duel, socialise and compete against other universities. Our club caters to all abilities, from novices to team GBR. We coach all three weapons, and our roster of coaches are impressive teachers who have either transformed hundreds of complete beginners into formidable opponents or turned advanced fencers into international champions.
Founded in 1896, CUFC has a rich history of spirited rivalry against Oxford that culminates in the annual Varisty match. The club also fields four teams (two men’s and two women’s) into the BUCS league, where many of our fencers have the opportunity to compete against multiple universities for the trophy. We also have multiple friendlies such as the Diamond Cup, and our beginners have a chance to show off their skills at the end of the year with Novice Varsity.
On top of this, we have regular socials, dinners and bar nights, and it is often said that students join for the sport but stay for the community.

Beginners
We provide one of the country’s most accessible beginner fencing courses. Whether you’ve always wanted to try and never had the chance or only just noticed it in the Olympics, we’re excited to introduce you and witness your progress in the sport!
Varsity Match
The annual Varsity Match against Oxford is the ultimate event for our Blues and Seconds teams every year. Throughout the year our four teams, each fencing all three weapons, also regularly compete in BUCS leagues.
Old Blues
We know how much a part of our lives the club has become and are sure this is also true for alumni. We’d love to keep in touch whether it’s by attending our Old Blues Match & Dinner or reading our newsletters.
Stash
If you wish to display your allegiance to our club, we have a broad range of stash for you to purchase. Socks and patches are available on our website here. Our other CUFC-branded items such as jackets, trackies, hats and more are available from third-party merchants. Keep an eye out for the stash emails on our mailing list for when these are available.
Donate
CUFC continues to do fantastic work with our amazing teams and work of our wonderful committee. With membership numbers increasing, and brilliant BUCS results from last year, we have exciting plans to continue improving the club.
